In light of the fact that this board represents the twin intimidating factors of staunchly-held music tastes and the internet, it was suggested that there should be a little "introduce yourself" bit here on the boards, so everyone can find out who everyone else is.
And then it will be less awkward.
and things.
So anyway, I'm Stefano, and I'm one of the presidents (we have two here at IMSoc - that's how much we love democracy). I'm the person who'll be sending you all the e-mails you get from IMSoc, because I really like typing things and admin and the internet. I'm also very short and have a DIY mohawk if you ever need to come and find me in real life. I like Weezer, The Beatles, and then some cool bands that I have to name drop every now and again so people don't think I'm a sellout.
I also like long walks in the rain, having someone to listen to my thoughts and when a man surprises me with flowers.
now you.

I'm David. I used to be president a long time ago. It was me and my co-president who founded the IMSoc institutions of Vertigo and Sunday Under Glass. I also ran 'Panic' which makes me old-school, but not in the same way Rob is. As a result I consider everyone in the second year or below a fashionista idiot who only got into indie music in upper sixth because it was 'cool', regardless of whether this is true or not. I can generally be found in the corner of every indie club with some other pissed-off northern blokes bemoaning this fact. As for music I like small-label noise, 'how does it feel' style indiepop and whatever pitchfork are into this month.

Hello. There are people in IMSoc who aren't old, but I'm not one of them. I was president in 2002-3 and graduated in 2004 but I'm still hanging around because... well I dunno but I'm still here.
When I ran Panic (Vertigo's forerunner) it was one of two indie nights in town and thus was frequently busy but also played a bizarre amount of metal. I also ran a night called Boutique in 2003, which was kind of like a proto-Narcissists but with less haircuts and more tiaras and eyeliner.
I'm less grumpy than I used to be but still relatively so. You can often find me... at the weekend.
I don't quite know how to describe my taste in music but it mainly involves tunes rather than noise and elements of romanticism and soap opera. I like reading books about music and attending musical events, preferably either in small fields or in Spain. My working life consists mainly of working out whether people like jars of pasta sauce or not.

Hello. I am Robert. I don't live in Oxford anymore. I will still be around a lot because I have no life. I was once Football Rep. Before that there were committee meetings in my living room. I wasn't allowed to attend them for some inexplicable reason. That made me sad. Ironically, of those committee members only Martin (and Seb) still post on the forums so in some small way I win, possibly. I am often to be found being one of the grumpy Northern men talking to Dave. If you call him Dave it makes him slightly less happy than if you call him David but more so than if you make puns on his humorous surname. I have spent most of my introduction talking about Allcock. How unfortunate. I like Bob Dylan and Van Morrison more than any modern music. IMSoc mainly provides an excuse for me to get drunk and be obnoxious. I am unemployed. I don't understand paragraphs.

presumably due to my preoccupation with bands, gigs and parties coupled with lack of administrative talent, dave coined the 'promoter' position for me last year so i could run vertigo without cocking up all the mailouts. this proved successful to the point where i carry on into a second year of service, but this time the duties are distributed between four of us (completed by tj, felix and annie) for breadth of taste and wealth of power. i claim to like most kinds of music, but this manifests mostly in angular guitar bands, electro and mark lanegan. i also co-run narcissists, where i can be found behind the decks every other wednesday (***baby love, king edward street, 9.30 til 3, pound off for imsoc members***) trying to make people dance. the rest of the time i'll be crashing college common rooms to cover them in posters.

hello to you.
i am tj and i am one of the (approximately) 25 imsoc promoters on this year's committee. i tend to come across as dismissive and don't usually mean to be. easily excited. i am a youngun compared to most of this lot. i like the stooges, mclusky, love, the sonics, blood brothers, dillinger escape plan, autolux, interpol, million dead and raveonettes. i enjoy lots of music, though my appetite for the twee and whimsical has to sprint to keep up with that of the imsoc ctte collective. i met bradley from s club 7 once and he signed my hand. i don't like patrick wolf much. my mother says i'm special. cat thinks i eat too much meat.

I'm Tom, I don't do anything committee-wise, I just like taking advantage of my friends' more industrious natures. The three best bands of all time are Biffy Clyro, Idlewild and Soulwax, in that order. I'm not sure if I'm a very 'indie' person, but when you come from where I come from, the concept of a nightclub in itself, let alone one that doesn't play complete shit is perhaps overwhelming. I am in love with Coventry City Football Club, which is problematic.

Hello. I'm Nat.
I'm small, blonde, friendly and thrive in temperate environments. Not on the ctte, but I do have an egg shaker.
I like things like The Divine Comedy, Eels, Blondie, Ladytron and Madness, if my 'Top 25 most played' is anything to go by.
I can't dance but you'll see me trying at Vertigo and often Narcs. Oh, and you'll also find me in the dark twinkly sanctuary that is the Beard Museum. I don't have a beard.

Hello. I'm Ric.
I'm usually found drunk at whatever imsoc type thing is going on. I tend towards the twee and pop side of the imsoc spectrum, as well as those (anti)folk people and bands from manchester that sing about the rain and getting drunk. I'm not as grumpy or as old as some of the grumpy old imsoc people, but I'm getting that way. I also run a radio show with a friend on oxide radio every monday lunchtime. It has lots of indiekid friendly stuff, but you may also find Girls Aloud, Backstreet Boys, and 60s girl groups being played on a regular basis. These things happen.

I'm Rachel, or Kenners as I appear to be better known in IMSoc circles, I honestly have no preference, so you know, go crazy with it.
I'm currently I.T. Girl which means I get to play with code and the such like, its not really very exciting... although its nice to know that I can plaster slander and scandel all over the internet if the need arises. I also used to be secretary and am currently being shown up by Lloyd. Curses.
I like lots of music, mainly stuff I can sing (and do impressions of funky synth noises) to and dance (in private) and think I'm cool, but also a hell of a lot of interpoly and velvety undergroundy stuff, plus some slightly electro-ish stuff. However my true love is folk, its all about Eliza Carthy, The Levellers, McDermotts 2 hours and Spiers and Boden.
Todays play list has been Supergrass (for about 60% of the time), The Yeah yeah yeahs, two tracks of Ladytron, Grand National and Sonic Youth. I am not shameful about liking the odd nirvana track either, and I don't want any of you judgemental sods being judgemental sods on me because of it.
I also love Radio Four and The Archers, cooking, allotment-ing, sewing, tea, knitting, high tea, subversive cross stitch and painting. Currently bat shit crazy over Alice in wonderland/through the looking glass and other Lewis Carrroll stories and poems. I'm one of those environmental types.
I sometimes like to think back to the old days when I was a pretenious Indie Kid in Sheffield and life was good, sometimes Pulp makes me cry because of this, other times Pulp makes me happy because I once had a very nice picnic on the spot Jarvis lost his virginity.
My metabolism is very high, I eat masses.

I'm Rob. I used to do loads of stuff for IMSoc but the last time I was in any way relevent was in 2003. Then I became OxStu music editor and Worcester MCR's social secretary and assistant manager at Worcester College Bar. Yup. Check that CV.
Anyone else had four distinct positions on the committee? Two in a given year?
Heh.
At least Joel at the Wheatsheaf remembers me and my efforts.

I'm Tom, I just joined.
I like the stooges, buzzcocks, XTC, Good Shoes, Smiths, Zombies, Late of the Pier, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Fall and most of all the Velvet Underground.
Recently I have been listening to a lot of Tim Hardin, Nick Drake and Nico.
I am currently trying to form a band. Over the last two weeks here I have mostly appreciated the architecture and Imsoc.
You're winner x

I'm Mark, I'm notable for having big hair and wearing t-shirts even when it's cold, I'm a third year, I'm not in the kitty but I go to Vertigo and Narcissists religiously, and I joined this forum to form a band.
Muse, Fiery Furnaces, Broken Social Scene, Nina Nastasia, Mars Volta, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Godspeed, Bjork, Blood Brothers and Holiday in Hawi'i are good bands. If it's fast or has female vocals I will probably like it.
While I was typing this the radio played the JCB song twice.
I'm tired. I'm going to bed.

hello. my name is mark and i was president last year. now i lean over people's shoulders and tell them they're doing everything wrong. and i design posters and flyers and shit.
well, mostly posters and flyers. i am the indesign to cat's c&p. (literally, not metaphorically)
i like all sorts. i listen to more willfully obscure stuff than most so that people think i'm credible until they realise that many of the best albums ever have just passed me by. crucially, i really, really like mc lars.
i go out much more than a finalist ought.
i used to be in a post-rock band, until our guitarist went to france. i'm now in the twee band cat has already alluded to. we have many gigs and not many songs yet. we're working on the latter.
i'm going to do some stats now.
