Deftones - Saturday Night Wrist (bought for my brother as a present for me really, it's fucking incredible, one of the best albums this year by quite a way) The ramblings of Annie Hardy at the end of Pink Cellphone made me spit out some tea onto my keyboard from giggling. Lovely. I've just been and bought: Pulp - We Love Life The Long Blondes - Someone To Drive You Home (NICE to have a real copy, exCITing) Is it worth getting the Pulp Peel sessions thingie? And which of the Magnetic Fields albums should I get first? Answers on a postcard please.

I've been busy buying CDs. I've now got:
Grails- The Burden of Hope Matmos- The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of A Beast Hella- Acoustics Tin Hat Trio- Book of Silk (not arrived yet, will come about halfway through term!)
I also randomly bought a CD that I thought looked great in the shop, but alas it's pretty dull. It's by Relaxed Muscle, I thought that was such a great name, and the front cover and track names were pretty funny, so I thought it had to be good. I was expecting some kind of noisy metaly stuff, but no, it's some crappy electro made by Jarvis Cocker! That'll teach me to buy CDs I know nothing about.
Next on my list- Black Box by John Zorn and 1930 by Merzbow.

I very nearly bought "Pere Ubu - Why I hate women" the other day solely because the title made me llol (literally laugh out loud) in HMV. but then i decided against it to prevent against being accused of being a misogynist/liking pere ubu. Otherwise, I have just bought the following from Amazon: Skinny Puppy - The Singles Collect Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island Jon Brion - I <3 Huckabees soundtrack Irving - Death in the Garden, Blood on the Flowers to be delivered to Oxford house!

Christmas acquisitions:
Ozma - Rock and Roll Part Three (several great songs in the first half) Guillemots - Through The Windowpane (nice, atmospheric, whole>sum of parts) Snow Patrol - Eyes Open (cue boos and heckling) Razorlight - s/t (cue more boos and heckling. 'acquired' from brother's hard drive - he 'acquired' it from a mates' copy in the first place. haven't listened yet. so shut up, it didn't cost anyone any money.)
I want many albums. As follows: Belle & Sebastian CYHSY Jarvis Bluetones Holloways Young Knives (my girlfriend owns this and is much impressed. I'll nab it off her next time she comes down) Frank Turner's new one (out next week)

I have just stolen the new Shins album. The lead single is mega, but either it's a grower or it's just not nearly as good as the other two.

Ozma - Rock and Roll Part Three (several great songs in the first half) is is true that that sounds like Weezer if they didn't forget how to write songs? Apparently Mr. Cuomo loves them. In other news, post-Christmas HMV voucher spree yields: Weezer - Weezer (Green) Eels - Blinking Lights (a replacement, further to my Eels being cursed) Girls Aloud - The Sound of Girls Aloud, the greatest hits. i don't have a problem.

After listening to it for six months, I finally got a hard copy of Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea for Christmas, because I felt it deserved it. After trying to get into Polar Bear for a couple of days, I found out it had shut down (Boo! ) and went to Fopp instead, where I got: Sugarcubes - Life's too good (which is lovely and fun) Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (on first listen, it seems a bit overratted. Also, 74 minutes? Do you really need that many?) Love Is All - Nine Times that Same Song (time will tell if it is, in fact, narcissists in cd form) I need so many CDs. Principally the new Blood Brothers, Nina Nastasia, something by Animal Collective and My Chemical Romance, and Ys by Joanna Newsom (which is apparantly sold out everywhere)

this is the problem with only listening to indie for years - you don't have any reference points any more
also, the new shins isn't really that good
the new bloc party really is, as you'll learn from the oxstu music pages you all avidly read every week

I did in fact avidly read that Bloc Party review in a haze of post-collections, erm, normality. I'm interested in your views and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Also glad that 'The Prayer' isn't anything like a highlight, as I wasn't very impressed by it.

This is true. Except that I don't know who Mr. Cuomo is. There could well be some Ozma on my Mix-CD-cd. I might lend you the CD if you remind me enough, because that's how nice I am.

as of Thursday:
Frank Turner - Sleep is for the week Joanna Newsom - Ys My Chemcial Romance - The black parade
No surprises there, unless you thought I was above MCR, in which case you were sorely mistaken. Frank Turner is amazing, of course, and when I wake up in the mornings I tend to have 'Back in the day' playing in my head.
I'm having trouble 'getting' Joanna Newsom. Can someone explain it to me?
